Basics for Baby

Babies may be teeny tiny, but they sure do need a lot of stuff! Of all the things a newborn needs, three pieces of gear top our list: a car seat, stroller and high chair. So what should you look for when deciding which pieces to add to your registry? We’re so glad you asked …

1. Car Seat
When selecting a car seat, the most important consideration has to be safety. Our celebrated Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 infant car seat exceeds the most stringent safety tests in the world. Designed for infants from 5 to 30 pounds (or up to 30 inches), the Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 features a Side Impact Protection (SIP) head panel that protects a child’s head, neck and spine. This SIP protection easily adjusts to 10 different positions, ensuring a perfect — and safe — fit. The Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 also has energy-absorbing foam in the shell and head panel that absorbs crash forces, resulting in less force transferred directly to child and minimizing injuries in the event of a crash. Plus, a Shock Absorbing Foam Element device located below the shell crumples upon impact, reducing stress on child’s neck and shoulders in the event of a crash. There’s also a five-point safety harness and a special removable cushion just for newborns.

2. Stroller
If you’re searching for a stroller with a newborn in mind, there are some important considerations. First, you’ll need a stroller that offers either a full recline and/or the option of attaching a car seat or bassinet. Most of our strollers are travel-system compatible with our own Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 infant car seat. And our newest stroller, the Book Plus, accommodates both our infant car seat and our newborn-ready bassinet.

3. High Chair
Since it will be months before your new baby will try solid foods, you may think it’s too early to think about a high chair, but a high chair can be a great place for baby at family mealtimes. All of our high chairs have a tilt-in-space reclining seat that’s perfect for young babies, even newborns. Our multifunction Tatamia is especially great for newborns because it transforms from a baby recliner to a high chair to a baby swing.

1 + 1 = 4 Stroller Options for Siblings

Are you expecting for the second time? Congratulations! As your family grows, your stroller needs may change, but don’t worry…we’ve got you covered. Check out our top picks for multiples, siblings and growing families:

1. Aria Twin 60/40

This side-by-side double stroller is our No. 1 pick for young siblings. Super lightweight and compact, we especially designed the Aria Twin 60/40 to fit through standard doorways. How were we able to do it? The Aria Twin 60/40 was designed with two different seat sizes (one that will accept a car seat), which is just perfect for siblings.

2. Duette SW

Expecting twins? For twins, or for families with two young children, we love the Duette SW. The tandem-style double stroller has two individual seats that can face forward, backward or each other. And the Duette SW will accept one—or two—car seats. (If you have triplets or three young children, we suggest the similar Triplette SW.)

3. Skate System + Jumper Seat

It’s easy to stay stylish, even with two children in tow. If you’re expecting again, or think there might be a second baby in your family’s future, you may want to consider our Skate System. With its Jumper Seat accessory, it’s easy to turn our fashionable stroller system into a head-turning double.

4. Pliko Four + Rear Footboard or Switch Four + Rear Footboard

Our two most popular strollers, the Pliko Four and the Switch Four, were built for growing families. Both come standard with our rear footboard. It provides a safe (and big-kid-approved) ride for an older, second passenger. We love it for siblings that are a few years apart.

What do you think about these options? Please share thoughts and questions below. We’d love to hear from you!

Traveling with Peg Perego

Are your holiday travel plans taking you a bit farther than “over the river and through the woods” this year? We’ve got many great stroller options sure to make the busiest travel weekend of the year easier on you, and your lil’ pilgrim!

Our first pick for holiday travel via air is the lightweight, easy-folding Si. With a compact design (perfect for tight spaces), it’s easy to take the Si with you from check-in through security and on to the gate. And at just 13 pounds, would you believe it’s car seat-compatible?

If you like to travel light, and in style, consider our Pliko Mini. At only 13 pounds, the fashionable Pliko Mini—a new addition to the Peg Perego lineup for 2011—makes travel a breeze! It has an easy, compact fold and a reclining seat (ideal for sleepy toddlers).

Traveling by twos? Try the Pliko P3 Compact. The P3’s built-in rear footboard provides a safe ride for a second child. Not only is this feature great for jet-lagged older siblings, but it can be a real life-saver if you find yourself running to your gate through a busy terminal. Plus, the Pliko P3 Compact has all the best features of a full-sized stroller (mufti-position recline, travel system compatibility, snack tray), but with the one-hand, compact you’ll need for quick maneuvering at the airport.

Checking your stroller? Consider our Travel Bag! This sturdy carrying sack, designed to hold our Si, Pliko Mini, and P3, is the perfect way to protect your stroller until it reaches your final destination.

Have questions? Please ask! We’d love to help your family find the perfect stroller, wherever you’re heading! And for the very best in-person customer care and service, shop a Peg Perego authorized retailer. Use our Where to Buy tool to find one near you.

Viaggio sicuro! (Safe travels!)

Best Strollers for Fireworks, Parades, and Festivals

Summer is here, and the Fourth of July is just days away, which means we are officially entering the season of fireworks, parades, and festivals. Are you ready? Is your stroller?

Any experienced parent will tell you that having the right stroller can make all the difference when attending special events. Here are our top Peg Perego picks for all of those great summertime festivities.

For older babies and toddlers, we love the Pliko Mini. Being just 19 1/4″ wide, it’s a breeze to maneuver through crowds. And, thanks to amazing design, it has all the comfort features your child will need for a long day out—a deep recline, an adjustable leg rest, and a full hood. Plus, at just 13 pounds and with its convenient carrying handle, the Mini is easy to still take along even when your little one is in more of a walking mood (which is bound to change at some point in the day, right?)

If you’ve got more than one small child, we recommend the Aria Twin 60/40 for special events. Super lightweight and compact, the Aria Twin 60/40 side-by-side double stroller allows both passengers to get a good (forward-facing) view. Likewise, with large independent hoods and individual snack trays with cup holders, it’s easy to keep both of your little passengers happy. Furthermore, since it was designed to fit through standard doorways, the Aria Twin 60/40 maneuvers surprisingly well through crowds.

Now, for a newborn, or a very young baby, we recommend the Pliko Switch Compact, which gives you freedom to position baby to face you, or the world ahead. Additionally, with just a few easy moves, the stroller seat converts to a carriage, which is perfect for sleepy babies, or diaper changes on the fly. We also love the Pliko Switch Compact for its large zippered hood that can be used as a sun canopy.

In a hurry to get one of these strollers before the holiday weekend? Use our Store Locator to find an authorized retailer near you. Happy Fourth of July!

Buying for Baby: Gift Registry Essentials

In our more than 60 years of designing and manufacturing high-quality products for babies and children, we at Peg Perego have gained some understanding about what it takes to prepare for a new baby.

It’s a joyful and beautiful time, but there is also so much to do!

To help, we’ve created a short checklist for all the gear you’ll need—and want—for your new baby.

Infant Car Seat: The most important consideration here is safety. Make sure to get a new car seat that complies with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) standards. Peg Perego’s celebrated Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 has been specially created to keep baby safe from the very start. Designed for infants from 5 to 30 pounds (or up to 30 inches), the Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 features a quick-release five-point safety harness with shoulder pads and a fail-safe buckle; adjustable Side Impact Protection (SIP); and a special removable cushion for newborns.

Stroller: When selecting a stroller for a newborn, there are some special considerations. First, you need a stroller that either has a full recline or offers the option to attach a car seat and/or bassinet. Several of our strollers have a full recline, and nearly all of them will take a car seat. A modular system (like our Skate System or our Pliko Switch Compact Modular System) are also great options, especially if you’re looking to get everything you need for a new baby in one convenient purchase.

High Chair: If you want to keep your baby nearby during meals, considering getting a high chair with a seat that reclines for very young infants. All of our high chairs have a tilt-in-space seat that’s perfect for young babies, even newborns. Other important features are a secure and comfortable restraint system (a five-point harness with a passive restraint is best); a wide, sturdy base; adjustable height; and a one-hand tray release. And if you’re looking for a multipurpose high chair, consider our Tatamia. Recently included in Fit Pregnancy’ s list of Registry Essentials, the Tatamia transforms from a baby recliner to a baby swing to a high chair, meeting your child’s needs at every stage, from newborn to toddler.

Taking to the skies this holiday season? Here are 5 tips on air travel with baby:

1.      Strollers should stay by your side. Traveling with baby can be difficult, but when you’re moving quickly through the airport, pressed for time, nothing is as helpful as a stroller. Labor Day Strollers

Labor Day is here, which means you’re sure to have some sort of event planned with baby! Here are our suggestions for proper baby gear, depending on your destination:

1)     Relaxing at the lake/beach – Bring along a stroller with larger (preferably air-filled) tires. This will help it navigate the sandy terrain.

2)     Going to the city/downtown area – The main thing here is to go with whatever stroller you feel best adapts to changing environments and is comfortable for baby. Because you may not know whether you’ll be spending your time window-shopping, park-visiting or museum perusing.

3)     Taking advantage of early bird sales – The stroller that you keep in your car trunk should be a great option for this. Basically, you just want something light, maneuverable and easy to fold.

4)     Hanging with friends and family– BBQ anyone? For a fun-filled day in the backyard, grilling ribs and playing lawn games, consider taking your most luxurious stroller option. The better the recline, the more comfortable the seat, and the larger the canopy size, the happier the baby.

5)     Getting out with nature – Grab your all-terrain stroller and go! If you don’t have an AT stroller, use whichever stroller has the largest wheels, and try to find a trail location that is the least bumpy.

Have a wonderful Labor Day!
