2012 Vela Easy Drive (“Sail” into Spring Break!)

Make a break for it with our lightweight, full-featured 2012 Vela Easy Drive. It’s one of our top picks for spring break, and travel in general.

At just 15.8 pounds, the Vela Easy Drive is perfect for any trip. And with a convenient easy-push handlebar, larger wheels for superior maneuverability, and little extras like a one-hand folding feature, it’s the one you’ll want to take everywhere you go, long after your trip.

The Vela’s one-hand-push single handlebar, large rear wheels and front swivel wheels with ball bearings offer enhanced steering and maneuverability. And that makes it easy to “sail” right through theme parks, museums…even busy airports. (Fun Fact: Vela is Italian for “sail.”)

If your itinerary calls for lots of travel time in and out of the car, don’t worry. Pair the Vela Easy Drive with the Primo Viaggio SIP 30-30 car seat (sold separately) to create the perfect travel system.

The Vela has all the features you need for a busy day out and about. A large, handy storage basket holds all the daily necessities and a child’s snack tray with cup holder make meals on the run quick and easy. Plus, the Vela’s hood easily converts to a sun canopy, thanks to a two-way zipper.

Features of the Vela Easy Drive include:

  • One-hand quick, easy and compact fold
  • Adjustable back rest
  • Telescoping handles for taller adults
  • Side adult cup holder
  • Loop on canopy to dangle baby’s favorite lightweight toy

What to Buy: Pliko Switch Compact vs. Pliko P3 Compact vs. Si

Peg Perego offers many compact-folding strollers within the Pliko line that are great for day to day use. But how do you know which one is right for your family?

The basic rule is that the Pliko Switch Compact is the ultimate option within the Pliko line, and its removable, reversible seat is the reason why. Within seconds the seat can switch from rear-facing (where baby is facing mom) to forward-facing (where baby is facing the world ahead!). This easy reversibility is essential as baby grows and gets more curious about the world around him. Plus, it allows the Primo Viaggio SIP infant car seat to attach directly to the stroller’s chassis!

Second to the Switch is the Pliko P3 Compact. This is often referred to as a go-to stroller, because it has so many great features and is easy to push and maneuver. Parents often reach for the P3 when they just need a reliable, dependable stroller that will adapt no matter what the day may bring.

Third in line is the Si. Great for extensive travel, the Si handles public and air transportation with ease but is also fully-featured enough to immediately transition to out-and-about activities.

Lastly, the Pliko Mini is the lightest, most basic option in the Pliko line. It’s ideal for errands, indoor settings, and even public transportation thanks to its ability to stand alone when folded! (Click here to see the comparison chart on the Pliko Mini).

For a quick product comparison, here’s a reference chart for the Switch, P3 and Si:

Little-Known Features of 2010 Peg Perego Products

Because we often focus on the unique and most-loved features, I’d like to take this week’s blog post to go over some of the more standard features that we offer on our products – you know, features that truly help the product stand out but may not receive as much attention.

1)     Diaper bag hooks (available on the Switch, P3 and Aria Twin 60-40) – Hooks are built right onto the stroller’s frame, so that you can easily hang a diaper bag from the stroller!

2)     Extra padded seats (available on all Peg Perego strollers) – Our stroller seats tend to have more plush padding than our competitors’ seats, making for a more comfortable and happy baby.

3)     Huge canopy (available on all Peg Perego strollers) – Our canopies are some of the biggest in the business, oftentimes stretching to reach all the way down to the stroller’s snack tray/bumper bar.

4)     Confort dry car seat fabric (available on the Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30) – Soft confort dry fabric wicks away moisture, keeping baby comfortable when the weather isn’t.

5)     A hood pocket (available on the Switch, P3 and Si) – This convenient pocket is located right on the hood – a perfect place for your keys or phone!

6)     Adult cup holder adaptability (available on the Uno, Skate System, Vela, Switch, P3, and Si) – With a cup holder hook on either side of the stroller, our Adult Cup Holder (included with stroller) may sit on either the right or the left. Very convenient!

7)     Spot shade (available on the Uno, Skate System, Switch, P3, and GT3 ForTwo) – Smart engineering allows most of our canopies to unzip and convert to a spot shade: a sort of shade that can be positioned to block the sun while still allowing plenty of ventilation!

8)     Lockable front wheels (available on the Uno, Skate System, Vela, Switch, P3, Si, GT3 ForTwo, and Aria Twin 60-40) – The option of putting the front wheels in swivel or stationary mode is a feature we include on most of our strollers.

Just some examples of how our products are engineered to make life easier!

Peg Perego Travel Bag Accessories

Vacation season is upon us, and many of you have emailed me asking about Travel Bag options for your Peg Perego strollers.

For our 2010 collection, we offer the Travel Bag* accessory for the Pliko P3. This bag also accommodates the Si. But unfortunately it doesn’t accommodate the Switch.

So, for the Switch or any other Peg Perego stroller you may own that needs a Travel Bag, one great place to check is www.jlchildress.com. JL Childress specializes in storage bags for baby gear, sports gear and other types of gear. And, if they don’t manufacture a bag that fits your particular stroller, they take custom orders!

Their prices are very fair (a custom ordered bag for the Pliko Switch was recently quoted at $49.99, with the option of adding full padding for an extra $20**), and their craftsmanship is excellent.

Hopefully this will be helpful to those of you who have upcoming trips and need some additional stroller protection!

*The Pliko P3 Travel Bag may be purchased from Customer Service. It can accommodate the P3 or the Si.

**I’d like to thank one of our customers, Kevin, for doing the legwork on the JL Childress bag for the Switch!

Disclaimer: Peg Perego is not affiliated in any way with JL Childress, nor is this an endorsement of their products. This post is simply a presentation of information to keep you the customer aware and informed of products that may enhance your experience with your Peg Perego stroller.  The information presented in this post, regarding availability, price, etc. of JL Childress products, may change.

Tips for Disney

As you begin to prepare for a trip to Disney, here are a few tips I’ve picked up on message boards and discussion forums:

1)     Know if you’ll need a stroller. Disney involves lots of excitement, exhaustion and walking, and you’ll find children who at home can go forever without a stroller will suddenly need some assistance getting around. Plan to have a spot on a stroller for each child under 6, and a recline option if you’re traveling with children under 3.

2)     Expect to see a lot of umbrella strollers. They’re the quickest to fold (a must when using the monorail and other public transportation), easiest to fly with (most have Travel Bag accessories), and generally lighter than traditional book-fold strollers.

3)     Claim your stroller with color. As you go on rides and participate in activities, you’ll be leaving your strollers with all the other temporarily unused strollers. Make yours easy to identify by tying a bandana to the handle.

4)     Consider a wheel lock. Leaving the stroller unattended can be a bit unsettling – especially if you’ve brought along a more expensive model. Though you won’t be allowed to chain the stroller to a post, you can put a lock on the wheels or elsewhere on the stroller. The wheel lock would prevent the wheels from moving, while a strategic lock somewhere on the stroller’s frame would prevent it from being folded (this strategy would result in the stroller being left in the parking lot).

5)     Renting is always an option. Even the most well-planned trip has unexpected bumps! Though a bit pricy, Disney does offer stroller rentals. Doubles and singles may be rented each day for a flat fee.
