There’s probably no one more excited about your baby’s arrival than your own parents, the soon-to-be grandparents. And if baby will be visiting a lot, it might make sense for grandma and grandpa to get a little baby gear of their own. In honor of Grandparents Day, here are our top picks for new grandparents:

An easy-to-store high chair. Our quick-folding high chair, the Prima Pappa Diner, is perfect for grandma’s house. A lightweight stroller. Peg Perego has a number of lightweight strollers, but our favorites for grandparents are our full-featured Vela Easy Drive and Si. A safe, up-to-date car seat. A high chair is more than just a place for feeding baby. Oftentimes, it is baby’s first seat in the house. It’s where baby can observe, and more importantly become, a part of your family. Given its significance, it’s no wonder we get a lot of questions about our Prima Pappa Diner and Prima Pappa Best high chairs.

1. What’s the difference between the Prima Pappa Diner and the Prima Pappa Best?

Both high chairs share a lot of the same features–a dishwasher-safe double tray for easy cleanups, non-scratching rubber caster wheels for smooth maneuverability, and seven height adjustments. The Diner comes in our easy-to-clean vinyl, while the Best comes in our stain-resistant, leather-like “Prima Classe” upholstery. The Best also has an adjustable footrest and storage net on the back of its seat.

2. So is the Prima Pappa Best really “best”?

It really depends what you’re looking for. While the Best has a couple of extra features, the biggest difference between the Diner and the Best is the upholstery. The Prima Pappa Diner comes in our easy-to-clean vinyl and features fun, childish prints. On the other hand, with its finely tailored “Prima Classe” upholstery, the Best feels a little more upscale.

3. Can your Prima Pappa Best and/or Prima Pappa Diner be used with a newborn?

Yes. Both offer four “tilt-in-space” recline positions, which are great for when you want to keep baby close during family dinners and get-togethers.

4. How long can my child use the Best or the Diner?

Both the Prima Pappa Best and the Prima Pappa Diner have been tested to accommodate children up to 45 pounds. They both adjust to seven height positions, and the Best features an adjustable footrest.

Here at Peg Perego, we are proud of our Italian heritage and long tradition of designing and manufacturing Italian-made baby and children’s products that meet the needs of families worldwide.

A family-owned company since our founding in 1949, Peg Perego continues to design and manufacture all of our products in Italy. A nod to our Made in Italy tradition, and to the style and quality standards that we hold so dear, is our many Italian product names. These names mean something to us, and we thought you might appreciate the meanings as well.

Uno. This name literally means “one,” which is perfect for this all-in-one carriage that quickly converts to a stroller.

Si. You probably guessed this one. “Si” translates to “yes.” And who wouldn’t want to say “yes” to a compact, quick-folding stroller that is so easy to take wherever baby goes?

Vela Easy Drive. This one is a little tougher to guess, right? “Vela” translates to “sail,” which really is a fitting name for our convenient and lightweight stroller. With the Vela, you can “sail” right through the day.

Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30. This one has a sweet translation. Directly translated, it means “first travel,” which is perfect since our Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 is the ideal solution for transporting infants 5 to 30 pounds or 30 inches.

Prima Pappa Best and Prima Pappa Diner. “Pappa” is a tricky one. You might have thought “pappa” means papa, or dad, or something along those line. But “pappa” actually translates to “baby food,” which is exactly what your baby will enjoy in our stylish, functional high chairs.

Sdraietta Melodia. “Sdraietta” is probably the toughest one to guess (and pronounce), right? In English, “sdraietta” translates to “bouncer.” And “melodia” translates to “musical.” So together, “sdraietta melodia” translates to “musical bouncer.”

Borsa Mamma. Another easy one. This one translates to “mom bag.” But isn’t Borsa Mamma so much more glamorous, and given the Borsa’s sleek style, more fitting?

Tatamia. This is one of our favorite names. It is so fun to say, and when you know the meaning, it makes you love the Tatamia even more. “Tata mia” roughly translates to “my nanny.” We love that! Especially since with its three functions—baby recliner, swing and highchair—the Tatamia can be used to care for your little one from the time they are a newborn through their toddler years.

In our more than 60 years of designing and manufacturing high-quality products for babies and children, we at Peg Perego have gained some understanding about what it takes to prepare for a new baby.

It’s a joyful and beautiful time, but there is also so much to do!

To help, we’ve created a short checklist for all the gear you’ll need—and want—for your new baby.

Infant Car Seat: The most important consideration here is safety. Make sure to get a new car seat that complies with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) standards. Peg Perego’s celebrated Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 has been specially created to keep baby safe from the very start. Designed for infants from 5 to 30 pounds (or up to 30 inches), the Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 features a quick-release five-point safety harness with shoulder pads and a fail-safe buckle; adjustable Side Impact Protection (SIP); and a special removable cushion for newborns.

Stroller: When selecting a stroller for a newborn, there are some special considerations. First, you need a stroller that either has a full recline or offers the option to attach a car seat and/or bassinet. Several of our strollers have a full recline, and nearly all of them will take a car seat. A modular system (like our Skate System or our Pliko Switch Compact Modular System) are also great options, especially if you’re looking to get everything you need for a new baby in one convenient purchase.

High Chair: If you want to keep your baby nearby during meals, considering getting a high chair with a seat that reclines for very young infants. All of our high chairs have a tilt-in-space seat that’s perfect for young babies, even newborns. Other important features are a secure and comfortable restraint system (a five-point harness with a passive restraint is best); a wide, sturdy base; adjustable height; and a one-hand tray release.
