While newborns may not be able to sit directly in the Si seat because of the recline, the stroller is travel system compatible, so a newborn could use their car seat attached to the Si seat. It is not necessary to remove the seat upholstery, however we found that the installation of the car seat is a little smoother when you extend the front bumper bar (do not remove) or remove the Si hood. I am having a little difficulty putting the carseat in the stroller. I know the stroller seat has to be tilted back which I have done.
